Chatham National Walking Day Events
"Walking isn't a lost art - one must, by some means, get to the garage."
National Walking Day is April 4 and several Chatham County agencies have collaborated to organize "Walk Across Chatham," which features events and a challenge designed to get folks walking all around Chatham County, including several in Pittsboro Parks. Click here for more event info or for a list of local walking and running clubs compiled by the County.

"The sovereign invigorator of the body is exercise, and of all the exercises walking is the best."
"Anywhere is walking distance, if you've got the time."
“In great cities, spaces as well as places are designed and built: walking, witnessing, being in public, are as much part of the design and purpose as is being inside to eat, sleep, make shoes or love or music. The word citizen has to do with cities, and the ideal city is organized around citizenship -- around participation in public life.”
-Rebecca Solnit, Wanderlust: A History of Walking
"Some folks look at me and see a certain swagger, which in Texas is called 'walking'"
-George W. Bush
"These boots are made for walking"
"A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world."
-Paul Dudley White
"As a nation we are dedicated to keeping physically fit - and parking as close to the stadium as possible."
“I like long walks, especialy when they are taken by people who annoy me.”
"I think that I cannot preserve my health and spirits, unless I spend four hours a day at least - and it is commonly more than that - sauntering through the woods and over the hills and fields, absolutely free from all worldly engagements."
-Henry David Thoreau
